Link preview checker: why your link shows no picture
You shared a link in WhatsApp, Facebook, LinkedIn or Slack and it came out as a bare line of text, or with the wrong picture. Type the page address: we load the page like those apps do and show what they find.

Why a link shows no picture
- No
og:imagetag. The most common cause. Apps have no picture to show. Add one tag with a full https:// address. - The image address does not load for a bot. A login wall, a firewall or bot check, a 404, or a hotlink block answers the app instead of the file. This checker shows the HTTP status and type it got.
- The file is too big for WhatsApp. Reports from site owners say WhatsApp silently drops images above about 300 KB while Facebook accepts much more. Facebook's debugger can look fine while WhatsApp shows nothing.
- The image is too small. Facebook ignores images under 200×200; under 600×315 you only get a small thumbnail. 1200×630 is the safe size.
- An old preview is cached. After you fix the tag the apps keep the old card for a while, and a message already sent keeps its old preview. Re-share the link as a new message, or re-scrape it in the Facebook Sharing Debugger.
- WebP, AVIF or SVG image. Some apps do not draw these in previews. PNG or JPEG always work.
- Tags added by JavaScript. Apps read your HTML as sent, without running scripts. If your page builder adds the tags in the browser, they are not there for the app. This checker reads the same raw HTML.
The tags to add
Put these in the <head> of the page. Try the example checks this broken one (the image address is relative and has no twitter:card):
<title>My shop</title> <meta property="og:title" content="My shop: handmade candles"> <meta property="og:description" content="Soy candles, poured in small batches."> <meta property="og:image" content="/img/share.jpg">
<meta property="og:title" content="Page title"> <meta property="og:description" content="One or two sentences"> <meta property="og:image" content="https://yoursite.com/share.png"> <meta property="og:url" content="https://yoursite.com/page/"> <meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">
On WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or Shopify the share image is a setting (SEO or social sharing panel), not code; the checker above still tells you whether the result works.
More than the preview
A missing share image is one of about a dozen things the free Site Check measures in a real browser: broken links, mobile layout, speed, accessibility, structured data.
