Bluesky link card with no image, or the wrong one

You pasted your link into a Bluesky post and the card has no picture, or shows an old one. Almost always the page's share tags are the cause, and one rule surprises people: the card is built once, when the post is written.

How Bluesky makes the card

According to Bluesky's developer docs (checked 2 Nov 2026), the app that writes the post fetches your page, reads og:title, og:description and og:image, uploads the image and stores the card inside the post. So a card does not refresh when you change your site later. Fix the page, then write a new post with the link; the old post keeps its old card.

Free, no sign-up. A real browser loads your site and shows whether the share image, title and description are really there.

Fix steps

  1. View the page source of the exact URL you share and search for og:image. No match: add <meta property="og:image" content="https://yoursite.com/share.png"> in the head. On a site builder, set the page's social or share image in its SEO settings and publish.
  2. Use a full https:// address, not a relative path such as /share.png. Open that address in a private window: it must show the image with no login and no redirect to a page.
  3. Use a normal PNG or JPG of about 1200 x 630 and under 1 MB. SVG and very small images are the common failures.
  4. Make sure the image is in the server's HTML response, not added by JavaScript after load: the card builder does not run your scripts.
  5. Check that your host or firewall does not block bots or return a "checking your browser" page to unknown visitors.
  6. Post the link again as a new post.
