Squarespace link preview with the wrong image

When you share a Squarespace link and the preview shows the wrong picture, a generic logo, or an old image, one of three things is happening: the image is set in the wrong place, it is not set at all, or the network kept an old copy.

Where the image is set

From Squarespace's help article "Add social sharing images" (checked 2 Nov 2026): on a computer, open the Pages panel, hover over the page, click the gear icon, open the Social tab, upload the image and save. Without one, a generic social sharing logo is used instead. Blog posts, products and events have their own Social settings inside each item's settings, so the page gear does not control them.

Free, no sign-up. A real browser loads your site and shows whether the share image, title and description are really there.

Fix steps

  1. Find what you are sharing: a page, a blog post or a product. Set the image in that item's own Social settings, not only on the site.
  2. Use an image of at least 200 x 200 px; 1200 x 630 crops well in most networks.
  3. Save, then open the live URL, not the editor, and view the page source for og:image to confirm the new address is there.
  4. Networks keep what they saw first. For Facebook, paste the URL into its Sharing Debugger and press Scrape Again (a few times if needed). Other networks refresh on their own schedule; a new post with the link is the fastest test.
  5. If it still shows the old image, upload the picture under a new file name and save again.
